Champagne Celebrations at #iVTue Pitch & Grill

26 May 2016

While the weather may have let us down slightly at Pitch & Grill this week, the pitching certainly didn’t disappoint. Always a popular event, Pitch & Grill was the final offering in the 2015/16 IV Tuesday series and with 160 people turning out to hear 18 exciting companies pitch their businesses, I think it’s fair to say this year went out with a bang!

What we love the most about this event is the mix of EIE alumni companies pitching alongside totally new faces and hearing  business ideas for the first time. For those unfamiliar with the Pitch & Grill format each entrepreneur arrives at a round table, pitches for 3 minutes and is then grilled by the rest of the table on their offering for 6 minutes before moving onto the next table. So each entrepreneur gets to pitch 6 times and can refine their pitch based on the feedback from the previous tables – it’s a really efficient way to improve your pitch!

At the end of the hour each attendee chooses their favourite pitch (bit of competition never hurt anyone!) and the winners from each zone receive a bottle of bubbly. Following this everyone heads upstairs for the rooftop BBQ and relaxed networking – this year only the hardiest of delegates persevered with the roof terrace though while most sensibly headed for the warmth of the sofas inside!

So all that’s left to be said is a huge congratulations to our three Pitch & Grill winners; Mel McKendrick (Optomize), Nikki Th’ng (Class 4 Kids) and Sarah Stenhouse (Instie).  We would also like to say a big thank you to Ian Ritchie for running proceedings and being so efficient with his whistle!

We look forward to seeing you again at the next IV Tuesday in September with our special guest speaker Dr. Robert Ambrose…all the way from NASA. Have a great Summer!
