The iVentureTuesday Speaker Series features a new programme of talks given by prominent members of the business community. The programme seeks to inspire and motivate those who wish to develop their careers in different directions or have entrepreneurial ambitions.

Dr David Milne FREng, FRSE, OBE
In 1984 David Milne co- founded Wolfson Microelectronics with colleagues from the Wolfson Institute at the University of Edinburgh. Wolfson Microelectronics grew into one of the UK’s most successful technology businesses under his leadership.

The Company was instrumental in creating the first generation of compact mobile phones through its development of custom circuits for electronic manufacturers. David then led Wolfson’s transformation into a product company from 1995.

Today Wolfson supplies high performance mixed-signal semiconductors to global consumer electronics corporations. Its devices are incorporated into a wide range of products including mobile phones, portable media players, portable navigation devices, digital still cameras, flat panel televisions, gaming consoles, sound systems, all-in-one printers and scanners, automotive infotainment systems and bluetooth headsets.

David remains a non-executive director of Wolfson.

He was Vice President of the Royal Society of Edinburgh from October 1995 to September 1998 and is a Fellow of the Royal Academy of Engineers. He was Chairman of the European Leadership Council of the Global Semiconductor Alliance in 2007/2008, and has been a director and chairman of Edinburgh International Science Festival Limited since 2007. David has a Doctorate in Physics from Bristol University.
