Advances in Blockchain Technology Scotland

ABT-Scotland is an online event organised by the Blockchain Technology Lab (BTL) in partnership with the Bayes Centre at the University of Edinburgh. The event aims to showcase the pioneering world-class research on blockchain technology taking place at the University of Edinburgh in Scotland, UK.

The BTL is led by Prof Aggelos Kiayias, Chair of Cyber Security and Privacy at the University of Edinburgh. In his role at the BTL, considered to be the most influential blockchain laboratory in the UK in terms of basic research, Prof Kiayias leads a team of researchers studying all aspects of blockchain and distributed ledger technology and collaborates widely within the University, nationally and internationally on advancing the state of the art in the area.

During the webinar, members of the University of Edinburgh blockchain research community will present their research in areas of security, privacy, regulation, design and programming. We are also very pleased to have two keynote talks: the first by Charles Hoskinson, founder of R&D company IOHK through which the BTL was founded in 2017. Charles will discuss his work alongside Prof Kiayias, notably the vast undertaking of the Cardano system. Our second keynote, Dale Chrystie, Business Fellow and Blockchain Strategist at FedEx, will lead the blockchain in industry session with each company offering a unique perspective on use of the technology. The speakers will answer questions from event attendees at scheduled points throughout the afternoon and there will be a networking session to close.

Scotland: The Next Frontier

Scotland: The Next Frontier                                                          Getting under the skin of Scotland's Space industry

“We do not realise what we have on Earth until we leave it.”– Jim Lovell, American astronaut and test pilot

Informatics Ventures and TalentSpark/Eden Scott invite you to ‘take off’ into a S.P.A.C.E analysis of Scotland’s ability to create a thriving space ecosystem.

With so many exciting businesses emerging both upstream and downstream; a new launch infrastructure in place to support the growth and investors eager to get on board, the possibilities are endless.

Scotland’s drive to lead European data driven innovation has positioned us at the heart of this industry and we wanted to kick start the conversation around the skills needed to really develop this sector.

YCF Scotland Conference 2019: Teams and Team Building

Fri, 13 September 2019

09:00 – 16:30

Each year YCF’s annual conference takes a broad theme that gives a variety of speakers the opportunity to set out their own knowledge or experience in different ways. We have talks by industry professionals –investors, analysts, business advisers – interspersed with presentations by entrepreneurs from early stage high growth companies.

This year’s theme is teams and team building. Investors almost without exception talk about judging a company by the quality of its team before committing any funds. Entrepreneurs, who tend to be independent, strong-minded types, do not always find it easy to build a team which ticks all the boxes required for company growth.

Doing data right: Through people and partnerships

From social inclusion to ethics, from skills to business, the emerging data economy cuts across many issues that matter to society and industry. Our 2019 conference will bring together key players from business, academia, and the public and charity sectors to get to grips with these complex issues.

Caroline Criado Perez, author of best-selling Invisible Women: Exposing Data Bias in a World Designed for Men, will also deliver a keynote talk and take part in a panel discussion on Women and Data, addressing issues of diversity in jobs and skills.

If you want to find out how businesses are using data to develop and diversify, or how charities are collaborating with researchers to tackle some of society’s most pressing challenges, join us at the University of Edinburgh on Tuesday 10 September.
